The Future Of Primrose Hill School

Primrose Hill School is facing a projected budget deficit for the 2023-24 school year due to an amalgam of circumstances which has led us through careful consideration to cease operations at the end of summer camp and will not reopen for the fall.

It is a decision we do not take lightly. We still firmly believe in our school’s mission, our community members, and our unique education model that benefits the whole child. We wish more than anything to continue this mission forward, however, the challenges remain.

Over the last decade Primrose Hill School has provided young children with a magical early childhood education, and school aged students with an enriching space to flourish, unmatched by traditional education models. It has been a home to a community of friends, families, and part of the larger Rhinebeck community. Even through the pandemic we helped many families thrive with a bridge to in-person education. We hold close the relationships and connections we have built over the last ten years.

When the school was founded, there was a pool of funding created by families paying amounts above their own tuition cost to assist other families in need. Presently the needs for assistance are greater than what this model can sustain; coupled with the additional challenges of low enrollment, staffing issues, a sizable rental increase and exhausted pandemic funding, we enter the new school year with an insurmountable budget gap.
